AECP Level 2 Color Your Day

Hi crafty friends! I am excited to share my submission for the AECP Level 2 Color Your Day class. This was a super fun class and I learned a lot. Therese's very first lesson was the one that struck me the most. I have really been trying to challenge myself to move outside of my comfort zone...and this class did it! I very rarely use black backgrounds, but the card that Therese made with the blue flowers on the black background just looked so beautiful I had to try it.

One of the most useful tips was to stick to only a few colors. So I used only 4; one for the flower color, 2 for the leaves, and one for the center of the flowers. This made it so much easier! I started with a piece of Canson 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. I stamped a few flowers from the Altenew Hibiscus Bouquet stamp set with VersaFine black ink. I did the same with the leaves from this set as well.

I colored the leaves with Tombow markers (see complete list below under supplies) and then used water on top of them to achieve the watercolor look. I really love how this purple turned out! I colored the leaves and the the flower centers in the same manner.

After this, I took a black piece of 110 lb. cardstock and cut it slightly smaller than my A2 card base. I adhered this to the card panel. Once my flowers and leaves were all dry, I die cut them with the coordinating Hibiscus Bouquet die set from Altenew.

I used different types of foam adhesives with different thicknesses to adhere the flowers so that I could achieve an even more layered look. I glued the leaves with Lawn Fawn tube glue.

For the sentiment, I stamped "You're the best" from the Fairy Tale Florals stamp set in black VersaFine ink and cut it down to the size I wanted. I adhered it to the cardstock base and voila! Card finished!

One of the key take aways from this lesson was to keep it simple. Sometimes I have a difficult time doing that. But I fought it this time, and I am really happy with the results! Thanks for stopping by!
